A powerful and amazing statement on Al Jazeera television

Here is a powerful and amazing statement on Al Jazeera television. The woman is Wafa Sultan, an Arab-American psychologist from Los Angeles. She is speaking in Arabic, so you probably have to read the translation below the picture.

Who is Wafa Sultan?
Rarely do we get a chance to witness an earthquake in ideological thought in this day and age. You could miss it amidst the noise and chaos of the global media marketplace. But if you want to see what an ideological earthquake looks like, go watch the video clips of Wafa Sultan, who on February 21, 2006, was invited to speak on Aljzeera, the Arab news network with the largest Arabic audience.
The videos are shocking. Sultan’s performance is riveting for it’s intellectual forcefulness, her command of the facts of history, and particularly for the way she handles herself when challenged by the islamic, male fundamentalists she has been pitted against.
She is a messenger of Truth with the courage of a lioness, and we need more women like her to stand up and speak out on behalf of women, democracy, tolerance, and respect for humanity. Her act of defiance was akin to Martin Luther’s challenge to the Catholic Church, but in this case, it’s a bolder proclamation for Secularism in the face of the monsters forged by religious fervor and extremist ideologies.
Those here who take pride in our “open” media may find yourselves picking your jaws up off the floor, and jealous at the courage shown on the part of Aljazeera. Certainly, they must have known what they were doing, for this was her second appearance on Aljazeera in this same forum of debate against religious conservatives. And one which has now been deemed more damaging to Islam than the Danish Cartoons by her new critics in the Arab world.
You will remember Wafa Sultan, and we will be hearing from her again. (She is finishing a book about her life story soon.)
